West Vancouver to permit absentee landlord secondary suites

Property owners with secondary suites will likely no longer have to occupy their principal residence if West Vancouver Council agrees to a new bylaw amendment.

At its March 7, 2011 meeting, West Vancouver Council reviewed a proposed zoning bylaw amendment that would permit absentee property owners to hire a property manager to manage tenancies in principal dwelling units and the secondary suites.

The bylaw amendment has now passed third reading and there has been a public hearing.

West Vancouver Council is expected to make the final decision at its March 21, 2011 meeting.

The goal in allowing non-owner occupancy is to continue to expand the range of affordable housing options in the District.
